Liverpool FC stars got in the festive spirit Spanish-style following a fantastic result against Newcastle United at St James’ Park, with a party at La Vina, last night.

As the first team squad returned following a 5-1 battering of the geordie faithful’s struggling side earlier in the day, players including Sami Hyypia, Fernando Torres, Pepe Reina and Xabi Alonso headed to the popular Spanish eatery in Liverpool city centre.

The footballers were joined by friends and family after the restaurant was closed to the other customers from 5pm.

Owners of La Vina masked out the windows with Christmas patterned drapes and hired a live music act to entertain the VIP guests.

Liverpool’s number 9, Torres, was so impressed with the restaurant in North John Street, he followed in similar vein as Hollywood actor Jude Law a few weeks earlier, and signed, in this case, the hand dryer in the men’s toilets before leaving.

Meanwhile, Liverpool FC captain Steven Gerrard was arrested in the early hours of today with another five men on suspicion of assault on a 34-year-old man. The incident happened at the Lounge Inn, located at the junction of Bold Street and Stanley Street, Southport.
